It’s spring again, and this brings the opening of Captain Bangs Hallet House Museum for the season. There are 48 historic sea captain’s homes within a mile of the Inn at Cape Cod, but this is the only one on Cape Cod regularly open to visitors. It provides an intimate glance into nineteenth century family life, and the parlors are arranged as if the captain was just returning from his voyage to China. His gifts of silk fabric, toys, porcelain, lacquered pieces and tea are on display, as well as costumes from the period. The museum is a gentle few minutes stroll from the Inn at Cape Cod, and along the way you can enjoy the wonderful Olde Kings Highway, which is classed as one of North America’s ten most scenic byways.
