There can be few historic streets in the western world so beautifully lit at Christmas time as The Old Kings Highway on Cape Cod. The proprietors of sea captains houses, restaurants, stores and of course inns, seem to compete with each other for the most stunning Christmas lights and decorations. An evening drive along what is now known as Route 6A, is not to be missed, following a breathtaking sunset across Cape Cod Bay from our local boardwalk.
We are fortunate indeed to live in Yarmouth Port, near Barnstable, one of the most picturesque and historic villages in New England, with so much to walk to from our Inn. Whether you’re looking for an interesting find in Parnassus Bookstore, the impressive art exhibition at the Fresh Paint Gallery, or a beautiful gift from Peach Tree Designs, you will have just begun to explore the delights of this charming village.
The daylight hours of any winter visit can be spent antiquing amongst the many antique stores that can be found along Route 6A between Yarmouth Port and the next village of Dennis, or simply shopping for Holiday gifts in Barnstable, or Hyannis, just a ten minute drive away.
If you over indulge with afternoon tea at the Borsari Gallery ( Helen’s 4 course breakfast is, after all, a distant memory by that time), you may find a brisk jaunt along the beach is all that is required to turn your attention towards dinner. Now let’s face it, having to drive to a good restaurant is not what you had in mind – well the good news is you don’t have to. We recommend all of the three first class restaurants, which are a short walk from our Inn. Traditional New England, Contemporary American and Japanese cuisines make your choice a difficult one.
Cape Cod is such a great destination, offering a broad diversity of things to see or do, no matter what time of year you choose. Why not spoil yourself and let us pamper you during a stay in this grand old building that has become our cherished home. We promise you adventures to remember -and you will want to come back for more ! So there’s no time like the present to check out our winter packages, which are updated on a regular basis, or if you prefer, we can put a package together to include your very own favorites.
