New Year's Eve Dining in Yarmouth Port

New Year’s Eve Dining in Yarmouth Port

The end of another great year beckons us to consider where we should spend this New Year’s Eve 2010 – can it really be eleven years since we saw in the turn of the century. I remember some friends planning that momentous occasion several months in advance.

Whilst there is no need to panic yet, as there appears to be some availability at most venues, you should not delay in making your arrangements for your celebrations this New Year’s Eve. So our brief review of what some of the best Cape Cod restaurants are offering, may help you to decide sooner rather than later.

We are rolling into our inn’s New Year 2010 Package, a number of indulgences including champagne and Belgian chocolates, but guests will also be able to enjoy a special dinner at the Old Yarmouth Inn, just a five minutes walk from our inn, and included in the same package. For anyone not staying at 4 Summer Street, the NYE’s menu will be available “prix fixe” for $43 a head. There are few restaurants on Cape Cod more popular than the OYI, and it’s easy to see why from the moment you enter this historic, haunted tavern. The warmth of the greeting you receive from the proprietors, Arpad and Sheila, can almost match the roaring log fires of this 1697 gem. As Europeans, we describe the cuisine as traditional New England at it’s best, and we hear the enthusiastic glowing reviews from hundreds of our guests during every breakfast time back at our inn. All in all, an experience not to be missed, and if you stay with us, you will not have the worry of getting home when the evening ends.

Well, if none of this appeals, look no further than The Lyric, which is once again, a short walk from our bed and breakfast in the opposite direction. This beautifully designed restaurant has a contemporary but intimate ambience and is a delightful setting for any occasion. The cuisine is contemporary American, carefully crafted and beautifully presented. Anne the proprietor, is also an accomplished singer and I would be surprised if she does not make an appearance on New Years Eve. A mouth-watering five course prix fixe multi choice menu is proposed for an early or late sitting at $65 or $75 per person respectively.

There’s even more to tempt you, should this have not done the trick. A mere ten minutes by car brings you to the Red Pheasant on the edge of Dennis Village. Once again, this is a restaurant with a glowing reputation, built by it’s owner chef  Bill Atwood Jnr., his father before him, and his lovely wife Denise. The restaurant has a delightful ambience and is set in a converted 200 year old barn, an enticing setting for any New Years Eve celebration. Add to this the creative and classic cuisine rolled into this years special NYE menu, not to mention an impressive wine cellar, and you have the makings of a great evening out. The four course prix fixe is $80 for the earlier sitting or $100 per person seeing the New Year in with a champagne toast at midnight and dancing to the music of Blues Alley.

We do hope you’re tempted! We certainly are. There is also a lot going on in Yarmouth Port on New Year’s Day for those of you who do decide to stay overnight with us. Wherever you end up, Helen and I hope you have a great evening of celebration, and we wish you a healthy and happy 2011.
