Romantic Anniversaries

With so many anniversaries being celebrated of late by our guests here, we might have been forgiven for letting one or two of our own slip by unnoticed. As far as our guests are concerned, it would be hard for them to find a more suitable location for any celebration, than one of the historic inns along Cape Cod Bay. The serene natural beauty takes some beating, but if you add to that, the enormous wealth of things to see and do and of course the first class restaurants and taverns you can walk to from our inn, the formula is irresistable.

We celebrated the fifth anniversary of our arrival in the USA and acquisition of  The Inn At Cape Cod towards the end of October – it feels every bit as exciting five years on, to be in this wonderful country! That we finally ended up on Cape Cod, with so many fine US destinations to choose from, was simply an affair of the heart, and our beautiful building, the icing on the cake. And yes, we managed our own little celebration one evening with a nice French couple, who were celebrating their 5 night honeymoon here at our Inn.

We are hoping that your research may lead you irresistibly to Yarmouth Port. Our historic sea-side village, which has many hidden treasures to offer you such as its museums, art galleries and fifty or so sea-captain’s houses, also boasts three of the Cape’s best restaurants, each one offering a different style of cuisine.

A stroll along the local romantic Grays beach and boardwalk, especially to witness the sunset, can of course sharpen the appetite in more ways than one. However, if you are looking for a bit of festive fun, the Yarmouth Christmas Stroll set for December 4th is an event not to be missed, followed by the lighting of the Christmas Tree on the Village Green.

Before you bid your sad farewell, why not spend some time looking for unique Christmas gifts. Our own favorite gift shop is Peach Tree Designs, a five minute walk from our Inn. It never fails to inspire one’s imagination. And if you have time on your way off the Cape, visit Mashpee Commons shopping village, where you’ll find some interesting gift shops.

And no, you do not have to take the car in order to dine at a top class restaurant, when you return from that romantic beach sunset. There is a choice of three of Cape Cod’s finest restaurants, each a short walk from our inn, to provide a perfect intimate evening with your partner – why should mums have all the fun.

The Magnificent Right Whale in Cape Cod Bay

It’s so heartening to learn that the whale population is back in Cape Cod waters – it heralds the start of another wonderful summer season. Since the word got out last week of sightings all along the northen and eastern coasts of the Cape, our guests have taken the opportunity to drive along to see what it was all about  – and none came back disappointed! Even the rare Right Whales are back, in greater numbers than last year. That will be a huge relief for the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), whose dedicated local staff and volunteers work tirelessly to protect and rescue these, and many other, marine creatures. But you don’t need to take the chance of not seeing the whales, just get yourself on an organised whale-watching excursion. Our local one, Hyannis Whale Watcher is just 10 minutes from the inn and they will start running on May 16, 2011. But if you can’t wait till then, why not take the Dolphin Fleet out of Provincetown, as they are already running wonderful trips to see whales, dolphins, seals & porpoises in their summer feeding grounds Stellwagen Bank. So why not treat yourself to a stay at the inn? Combine whale-watching with relaxation and some great local dining: The award-winning Old Yarmouth Inn, is just a short stroll away from us, or maybe try Lyric, just a ten minute walk, where your meal will be accompanied by piano music, and if you are lucky some lovely singing from the owner Anne. If you are unacquainted with the life and works of Edward Gorey, you will find an hour in this museum a richly rewarding experience, and you will doubtless come away with a gift or two from the shop – you are in for a treat!

There are many quirky exhibits to help celebrate the 10th anniversary of  The House, and the admission price remains extremely reasonable. This acclaimed artist and writer has a considerable international following, as well as the U.S., however you do not have to be a Gorey fan to enjoy and appreciate his incredibly diverse works.

There are always a number of events and new exhibits to make all the more reason to plan a visit. For example, the 2011 special exhibit is “Edward Gorey and the Performing Arts”. Our favourite event is the annual “Pets around the Common Day”, which takes place this year in September.

So why not plan your visit to stay with us – we are offering a couple of tickets for admission to the Gorey House for any two night stay in one of our luxury rooms. Add a third night and you will receive a Gorey Cat. To qualify, just quote this blog.

The group arrived from Europe on Sunday afternoon, and after settling in they raced off to shoot some gorgeous sunset photos before strolling next door to the Old Yarmouth Inn for a fantastic dinner.

The head Jaguar designer stayed in our most prestigious room, the Plantation Suite, where we hope he managed a little relaxation during his whirlwind visit. On Sunday morning, after an early breakfast at the inn, the media group spent some time touring  Cape Cod and taking more shots of their gorgeous cars in stunning settings. Then it was time to head towards New York to see the launch of the updated Jaguar XF.
